ABOUT ME

Hello!

Thanks for visiting my blog!  If you’re here, we probably know each other, but how well do you know me?  Allow me to share a little more about myself.

I am from the Detroit area, in Michigan USA.  I went to school at Indiana University Bloomington and studied business and philosophy.  There, I started an environmental activist organization called Students for a New Green World (SNGW), which I am proud to say still exists today, and continues to advocate for progressive climate action from Indiana University.

After I graduated, I moved to Thailand for 16 months.  I met some amazing people from all over the world, and had some incredible experiences.  From fighting Muay Thai on the Island of Koh Phi Phi to win a bucket of alcohol, to driving my motorbike over 500 km across northern Thailand, this country will always have a special place in my heart.  I taught English in the Northern cities of Lamphun and Chiang Mai. Pom pud thai dai nid noi (I speak a little bit of Thai).

I returned to the States because my father was dying of prostate cancer.  I was able to be with him in his final months, which is something that  I will always be extraordinarily grateful for.  Traveling is amazing, but you can never get time back with your loved ones once they’re gone.  My next chapter will be a 27-month stint in the Peace Corps in the beautiful country of Nepal.  I feel very blessed because it has been my dream to join the Peace Corps, specifically in Nepal, since my junior year of high school.  I will be teaching English in a rural village while I am living with a host family.  I intend to do some of the big treks such as the Annapurna Circuit, and the Manaslu Circuit.  More on that to come on my blog.

After my time in the Peace Corps, I intend to go to graduate school to study international development so I can put my skills into a career in lifting people from poverty, famine, and the devastation of war.  Tangentially, I would also love to pursue a career in writing and photography, which is the reason why I created this blog; to hold myself accountable to these goals.

What else is there to know about me?  I believe that Indian cuisine is beyond a shadow of a doubt the greatest food on Earth, I love to ski, camp, bike, take photos, read, and write.  My favorite author is Haruki Murakami, and my favorite book is Kafka on the Shore.  I have a big ol’ crush on Korean culture, and I love Korean cinema.  I have 16 nieces and nephews whom I love dearly, and three amazing siblings who live in the Pacific Northwest.  One day, I would like to publish a novel, and maybe even open a brewery.

I am here, in Panauti, Nepal
